Eco Church, Bird count

Eco Church

Many people told me that they didn’t have many birds in their garden during the RSPB Garden Bird Count, which is a bit worrying as we did not either. Muriel manged to spot 11 species which was good compared to our 9, with Blackbird and Goldfinch having the greatest number at the same time, but she also had Coal Tit and Wren which are less frequently seen in gardens. For us, Blackbird, Dunnock and Blue Tit were the most numerous. We were less pleased to see a male Sparrowhawk later in the day, plucking a Goldfinch on the lawn. He was a beautiful bird with orange barring across his chest but we would rather he didn’t eat our Goldfinches.

The first meeting of our monthly ‘Broken Planet?’ group starts on 8th March in St Michael’s (see below), when we will be looking at ‘Waste’ This group is for everyone, whatever your thoughts about the state of the natural world and will run monthly for twelve months, each month focusing on a different aspect of the global situation, and always on the second Saturday of the month. Do come and join us to have your say.
