Eco Church, August 2025
Eco Church
The extreme temperatures being recorded around the Mediterranean this summer and the subsequent wild fires, are a reminder to us all of the urgent need to take action on global warming. Wildfires themselves cause huge amounts of air pollution causing millions of deaths worldwide. Smoke from wildfires in Australia has affected air quality in South America and that from Canadian fires has affected Europe. Even in this country, we are experiencing repeated heatwaves with temperatures over 300C during the summer, something which used to be a rare occurrence is now common place, and wildfires are becoming more prevalent. The only way we can take positive action is by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels – all of us, now! Please think carefully about your car journeys, can you reduce your car use? Do you really need to fly on holiday? There are many beautiful parts of the UK that you could explore, finding out about our history, as well as becoming acquainted with some of our fantastic natural landscapes and wildlife. Plastic is made from fossil fuels; please try to reduce your reliance on plastic in whatever way you can. Please take action for the sake of your grandchildren and people living in areas most affected by climate change, such as Africa, South America and even countries around the Arctic Circle.
