Climate change

Eco Church

Many countries in Africa are extremely vulnerable to climate change and are already facing acute climate-related challenges from higher temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events such as increased drought conditions and flooding. This is leading to a rise in food insecurity and economic instability, with farmers unable to meet the vital needs of their families and in part, this is one of the causes of the mass migration of people from Africa to Europe. In some places, aid agencies help by training farmers in climate resilient farming techniques, but the situation is only likely to get worse unless everyone in the richer western countries do all we can to reduce the use of fossil fuels for heating, light, transport and in the making of plastics. We need to take action to make our voices heard by politicians of all parties, so that they act to reduce our nation’s impact on climate change. The least we ourselves can do, is to recycle our soft plastic wrappers at supermarkets, including the Co-op in Reepham; walk instead of using the car for short journeys; buy locally grown fruit and vegetables to reduce food miles and, if we are able, to consider having solar panels installed to generate our own electricity from the sun.
