Caring for God’s Earth – Household changes we can make

Eco Church

Thank you to those of you who signed the Tearfund COP27 petition or wrote to our MP about the importance of the government honouring its climate change pledges. At least with the change of Prime Minister, the risk to our underground water supply posed by ‘fracking’ has receded. While we cannot change the world and its addiction to fossil fuels, we can help hold our government to account and take our own actions to reduce our carbon footprint, by reducing our personal energy consumption. One way to do this is by insulating our homes to reduce draughts. Simple things like thick lined curtains on windows and inside doors will help, as will draught proofing the loft hatch and outer doors. High temperature washing and tumble dryers use a lot of energy, so investing in an old fashioned airing horse to dry cloths indoors; reducing washing temperatures and only washing a full load will also reduce the household carbon footprint and energy bills.
