Caring for God’s Earth – Reducing our own Carbon Footprint
Eco Church
As part of our challenge to reach Silver standard in the Eco Church awards, we need to monitor our carbon footprint on an annual basis and it is now 12 months since I last asked you to undertake this. The WWF footprint website has been improved during the year and is now even easier to use. Go to WWF Footprint Calculator. It will give the result for your household as a percentage of the UK average, so 100% is average and anything below is good. If your result is higher than that, is there anything you can do to reduce your carbon footprint based on the answers you gave? Could you eat less red meat or grow some of your own food, be it herbs, tomatoes or fruit, all of which can be grown in suitable sized pots.
When you have done this, please could you let Rachel know that you have done so. The carbon footprint for our church complex has now been calculated and I am pleased to be able to tell you that, because of the large number of people who use St Michael’s on a regular basis that our church comes within the top 10% of Church of England churches with the smallest carbon footprint!
